چکیده

Sensor networks can be considered distributed computing platforms with many severe con straints including limited CPU speed memory size power and bandwidth Individual nodes in sensor networks are typically unreliable and the network topology dynamically changes possibly frequently Sensor networks can also be considered a form of ad hoc network However here also many constraints in sensor networks are di erent or more severe Sensor networks also di er because of their tight interaction with the physical environment via sensors and actuators Due to all of these di erences many solutions developed for general distributed computing plat forms and for ad hoc networks cannot be applied to sensor networks Many new and exciting research challenges exist This paper discusses the state of the art and presents the key research challenges to be solved some with initial solutions or approaches This work is partly supported by the MURI award N

An Adaptive Congestion Alleviating Protocol for Healthcare Applications in Wireless Body Sensor Networks: Learning Automata Approach

Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) involve a convergence of biosensors, wireless communication and networks technologies. WBSN enables real-time healthcare services to users. Wireless sensors can be used to monitor patients’ physical conditions and transfer real time vital signs to the emergency center or individual doctors. Wireless networks are subject to more packet loss and congestion. T...

An Energy Efficient Clustering Method using Bat Algorithm and Mobile Sink in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of sensor nodes with limited energy. Energy efficiency is an important issue in WSNs as the sensor nodes are deployed in rugged and non-care areas and consume a lot of energy to send data to the central station or sink if they want to communicate directly with the sink. Recently, the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is employed as a low-power, low-cost, and low rat...

RTCoord: A Methodology to Design WSAN Applications

Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs) constitute an emerging and pervasive technology that is attracting increasing interest in the research community for a wide range of applications. WSANs have two important requirements: coordination interactions and real-time communication to perform correct and timely actions. This paper introduces a methodology to facilitate the task of the applicati...

A Hybrid Embedded Real-time Operating System for Wireless Sensor Networks

Traditional operating systems for wireless sensor networks (WSN) are based on either event-driven or multitask concept. Instead, this paper presents an embedded real-time operating system, named HEROS ‘Hybrid Embedded Real-time Operating System’, which is configurable to run in different modes: event-driven, multitask or hybrid to adapt to diverse domains of WSN applications. HEROS adopts a mod...

Target Tracking with Unknown Maneuvers Using Adaptive Parameter Estimation in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract- Tracking a target which is sensed by a collection of randomly deployed, limited-capacity, and short-ranged sensors is a tricky problem and, yet applicable to the empirical world. In this paper, this challenge has been addressed a by introducing a nested algorithm to track a maneuvering target entering the sensor field. In the proposed nested algorithm, different modules are to fulfill...

Task & Resource Self-adaptive Embedded Real-time Operating System Microkernel for Wireless Sensor Nodes

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are used in many application fields, such as military, healthcare, environment surveillance, etc. The WSN OS based on event-driven model doesn’t support real-time and multi-task application types and the OSs based on thread-driven model consume much energy because of frequent context switch. Due to the high-dense and large-scale deployment of sensor nodes, it is ...
